ON CALSTOCK WETLANDS
• Leave the bird where it is. Do not touch it.
• Report sightings to DEFRA helpline on 0345 933 5577
It is not practical for DEFRA to collect the bird, as it will

ON PRIVATE LAND
• It is up to the landowner to decide whether or not to dispose
of the carcass, depending on the circumstances
DOMESTIC RESIDENCES [ONLY]
For a small number of birds
• If possible, wear disposable protective gloves when picking
up or handling dead wild birds
• If gloves are not available, use a plastic bag as a make-shift
glove
• When the dead wild bird has been picked up, the bag can be
turned back on itself and tied, enclosing the dead wild bird
within the bag
• The bag containing the dead wild bird should then be placed
in a second plastic bag, preferably leakproof. Care should be
taken not to contaminate the outside of the bag.
• Remove any gloves or other hand coverings used, by turning
them inside out as you take them off, and then place them in
a second plastic bag, taking care not to touch the outside of
the gloves with bare hands.
• Tie the second bag closed and dispose of in the normal
household waste (general refuse lidded bin outside).
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
• If clothing touches the bird, wash as soon as possible at 60°C

The Tamar Community Trust is a registered charity, number 1132513, formed in April 2009 with objectives of:
- promoting sustainable development and regeneration in the Tamar Valley;
- advancing the education of the public about the landscape, sustainable development, protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment of and the history and heritage of the Tamar Valley; and
- advancing environmental protection or improvement.
We aim to meet these objectives mainly by doing practical tasks, such as maintaining and creating trails, building bridges, erecting signs, managing woodland, and more…..Use the menu to find out more about what we do. We hope you’ll be inspired to join us!
Our newest project is the River Tamar Walkway and Wetland Project where we have built a bridge over the breach created in the river bank thereby preserving the popular walkway. We also plan to create a new community space adjacent to the proposed wetland reserve, to be called Town Farm Field.
Please see the project page for more information on the status of this project.
